The OSG 1413600 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 12-24 UNC internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It features a plug chamfer style, a right-hand spiral flute configuration with a 50-degree helix angle, and is manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish. The spiral flute geometry evacuates chips up and out of the hole, making it well suited for blind-hole tapping applications. The H3 thread limit designation controls tap oversize relative to the nominal thread profile, supporting both 2B and 3B class-of-fit requirements. Installation is performed by licensed machinists and tool-and-die or maintenance professionals using standard tapping equipment.
This tap is designed for blind-hole and through-hole tapping in production and maintenance environments. Rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel, it covers the material mix commonly encountered in general metalworking and MRO applications. The plug chamfer distributes cutting load across the first several threads, making it a practical choice where thread engagement starts close to the material surface.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use spiral flute tap for 12-24 UNC threading applications in standard tapping chucks, drill press setups, and CNC tapping heads that accept the corresponding shank diameter of 0.22 inches.
Tapping operations should be performed with appropriate cutting fluid matched to the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Ensure the spindle and workpiece are properly aligned before engagement to prevent tap breakage. Always follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine guarding requirements when operating tapping equipment. Remove the tap from the hole before reversing spindle direction if using non-reversing equipment.
