The OSG 1413405 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 10-32 UNF internal threads in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. It features a plug chamfer for standard through-hole and blind-hole threading operations and is manufactured from high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating that extends tool life by reducing friction and wear. The H3 thread limit and 2B class of fit make it suitable for general-purpose threaded fastener applications where standard tolerance is specified. With a 50-degree helix angle and three right-hand flutes, this tap efficiently evacuates chips upward out of the hole during cutting. Licensed machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians are the typical installers.
This tap is suited for use in both production and maintenance environments where 10-32 UNF threads are required. It performs across a broad range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. The plug chamfer style makes it appropriate as a starting tap in most standard tapping setups, whether run by hand, drill press, or CNC tapping cycle. Its compact overall length of 2.375 inches accommodates most standard tap handles and machine spindle holders used in light to medium machining work.
Designed for cutting 10-32 UNF threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. Coolant-through is not supported on this tap.
This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with threading operations. Always secure the workpiece firmly and ensure the tap is properly aligned with the pilot hole before beginning the tapping cycle. Power down or disengage the machine spindle before loading or removing the tap from the holder. Do not exceed the recommended speed range for the workpiece material, and use an appropriate tapping fluid to protect the cutting edges and achieve proper thread finish.
