The OSG 1413208 is a spiral flute plug tap designed for cutting 10-24 UNC internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating, it delivers improved wear resistance and reduced friction compared to uncoated HSS taps. The spiral flute geometry with a 50-degree helix angle pulls chips up and out of the hole, making it well-suited for blind-hole applications where chip evacuation is critical. Overall length is 2.375 inches with a shank diameter of 0.194 inches. Thread limit is H3, producing a 2B or 3B class of fit. This tap is intended for use by machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance professionals on manual or CNC equipment.
The 1413208 is rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. Its 50-degree right-hand spiral flute design is especially effective in blind holes where straight-flute taps tend to pack chips. The plug chamfer style distributes cutting load across several leading threads, making it a practical general-purpose choice for production tapping, repair work, and prototype machining across automotive, industrial, and fabrication environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct substitute spiral flute plug tap for 10-24 UNC threading operations in standard tap holders, tapping heads, and CNC rigid-tap toolholders accepting a 0.194-inch shank diameter.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with tapping operations. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the correct tap drill size for 10-24 UNC is used before tapping. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material, particularly when working with steel or cast iron, to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Never reverse a tap under power without confirming the machine is set to reverse; forced extraction of a broken tap is a costly repair operation.
