The OSG 1413205 is a spiral flute plug tap designed for cutting internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it produces clean, accurate 10-24 UNC threads at a 2B class of fit. The 50-degree helix angle drives chips forward out of the hole, making this tap well suited to blind-hole applications where chip evacuation is critical. Overall length is 2.375 inches with a thread length of 0.511 inches. Shank diameter is 0.194 inches. This tap is used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals working in production or repair environments.
The 1413205 is suited for threading operations in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. The plug chamfer provides a gradual entry with a standard lead, making it appropriate for through-holes and accessible blind holes. Right-hand thread direction follows standard fastener orientation for the vast majority of industrial and mechanical assembly work. Series 107 with an H3 thread limit holds tolerance well for general-purpose 10-24 UNC thread applications.
Designed for use in standard tap holders, tapping heads, and CNC rigid-tapping setups that accept a 0.194-inch shank diameter. Compatible with 10-24 UNC thread applications across aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel workpieces.
Secure the workpiece fully before tapping and ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the drilled hole to prevent thread distortion or tap breakage. Use a cutting fluid appropriate for the work material — sulfur-based oils for steel, water-soluble coolants or kerosene for aluminum. When tapping by hand, back off a half turn periodically to break chips. When using in a machine, verify the spindle speed and feed rate match the tool manufacturer's recommendations for the work material before starting the cycle.
