The OSG 1410107000 is a thread forming tap designed for metric M3x0.50 blind hole threading applications. Made from cobalt high speed steel with a TiCN coating, this tap cold-forms threads by displacing material rather than cutting chips, producing stronger threads and eliminating chip-related complications. It features a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, allowing threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. The overall length is 49.20 mm (1.93 inches) and the thread length is 6.20 mm (0.24 inches). Part of the OSG HY-PRO NRT Series 14101, it is installed by machinists and tooling technicians in precision threading operations on a range of metals.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. It is commonly used in CNC tapping centers, manual drill presses, and tapping machines where a right-hand metric M3x0.50 thread is required in ductile materials. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it effective in applications where thread engagement must start close to the base of a drilled hole. Maximum tapping depth is 16.00 mm (0.63 inches).
Designed for M3x0.50 metric right-hand blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Material application codes P and N apply.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill — use the recommended forming tap drill diameter for M3x0.50 to avoid overloading the tap or producing undersized threads. Secure the workpiece and use a tapping fluid appropriate for the workpiece material, especially when working with stainless or hardened steel. Operate within the tap's rated tapping depth of 16.00 mm and avoid exceeding the hole depth to prevent tap breakage. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and manufacturer speed and feed recommendations for the workpiece material and machine type.
