The OSG 1410106108 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-form threading operations in blind hole applications. Part of the HY-PRO NRT Series 14101, this tap displaces material rather than cutting it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. The M2x0.40 metric coarse thread profile and modified bottoming chamfer allow threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel with a TiCN coating, it delivers extended tool life in demanding materials. A D4 thread limit ensures consistent fit across production runs. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians working in precision machining environments rely on this tap for high-integrity internal threads.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading in a range of metallic workpiece materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered thread pitches allows threading to near-bottom depths, making it well suited for tight-tolerance parts where thread engagement depth is critical. It is a right-hand tap intended for standard CNC tapping cycles and manual tapping operations in production and maintenance machining contexts.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Material application codes P and N apply. Intended for use with standard M2x0.40 metric coarse thread specifications.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill hole, which is larger than a standard cut tap drill size for the same thread — consult an M2x0.40 forming tap drill chart before setup. Apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material to reduce galling, particularly in stainless steel. Secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is held perpendicular to the work surface to avoid thread lead errors. Replace the tap before excessive wear causes thread form deviation or tap breakage in the blind hole.
