The OSG 1410105405 is a thread forming tap designed for producing M12x1.75 metric coarse internal threads without cutting chips. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and coated with titanium nitride (TiN), it delivers extended tool life in demanding threading applications. The bottoming chamfer style, with 1 to 1.5 chamfered threads, allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Overall length is 3.3465 inches (85.70 mm) with a thread length of 0.8268 inches (21.00 mm). This tap belongs to the OSG HY-PRO NRT series and is suited for use by machinist and tool-and-die professionals in production and job-shop environments.
This tap is rated for blind hole threading across a broad range of workpiece materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The thread forming process displaces material rather than removing it, resulting in stronger formed threads and no chip evacuation concerns in blind holes. It is well suited for CNC machining centers and manual tapping operations where consistent 4H class-of-fit threads at a D6 thread limit are required. Right-hand thread direction is standard.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum workpieces. Material application codes P and N confirm suitability for steel and non-ferrous material groups per ISO classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard tapping procedures. Ensure the spindle is properly aligned and the workpiece is securely fixtured before engaging the tap. For blind hole applications, set tapping depth stops carefully to avoid bottoming the tap under load. Use an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil compatible with the workpiece material to protect the tool and achieve on-spec thread finish.
