The OSG 1410105300 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting chips. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, this plug-chamfer tap produces M10x1.50 metric coarse threads to a 6H class of fit with a D10 thread limit. It is part of the HY-PRO NRT series, engineered for through-hole threading applications where a clean, work-hardened thread form is required. The plug chamfer style with 4 to 4.5 chamfered threads makes it well suited for through-hole entry in production and maintenance environments. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary installers of this type of tooling.
This tap is rated for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, covering a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. With a tapping depth of 1.252 inches (31.80 mm) and an overall length of 2.913 inches (74.60 mm), it fits standard tap holders and CNC tapping chucks used in vertical machining centers, drill presses, and hand-tapping operations. Right-hand thread direction is standard, consistent with most metric fastener specifications.
Designed for through-hole threading of M10x1.50 metric coarse threads in workpiece materials coded P and N, including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Compatible with standard tap holders accepting a 0.381-inch (9.68 mm) shank diameter and a 0.286-inch (7.26 mm) square drive.
Thread forming taps require adequate lubrication or tapping fluid matched to the workpiece material — always consult material-specific cutting fluid recommendations before use. Secure the tap in a floating or rigid tap holder appropriate for the machine type; confirm spindle speed and feed rate are set to manufacturer recommendations for the workpiece material before engaging the tap. Power down or de-energize the machine and lock out before changing tooling. Do not use thread forming taps in blind holes unless the hole depth is sufficient to accommodate displaced material without bottoming the tap.
