The OSG 1410104901 is a thread forming tap designed for internal thread production in blind hole applications. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, this bottoming-style tap uses a cold-forming process rather than cutting, displacing material to create threads without producing chips. It is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and coated with a steam oxide finish to reduce friction and resist wear. The M10x1.50 metric coarse thread profile, combined with a D10 thread limit and 6H class of fit, makes this tap well-suited for precision threading in demanding shop and field conditions. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary users.
This tap is engineered for blind hole threading operations across a broad range of metallic workpiece materials. Compatible material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The bottoming chamfer, with 1 to 1.5 chamfered threads, allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole where clearance is minimal. It is commonly used in machining centers, CNC tapping operations, and manual tapping setups where thread quality and positional accuracy are critical.
Suitable for threading M10x1.50 metric coarse blind holes in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Material application codes P and N apply.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill, which differs from standard tap drill charts — consult OSG HY-PRO NRT series application data for correct pre-drill diameter. Secure the tap in a rigid holder and ensure proper alignment to prevent tap breakage, especially at depth in blind holes. Apply a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material before starting. Follow all applicable shop safety procedures and power down or de-energize tapping equipment before changing tooling.
