The OSG 1410104505 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-form tapping of blind holes in a wide range of metals. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than remove it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating for extended tool life. It carries a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, allowing threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. The class of fit is 6H with a D9 thread limit, meeting standard metric tolerance requirements for precision threaded fastener applications.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance machining operations in metalworking shops, toolrooms, and manufacturing facilities. It is used to form M8x1.25 metric coarse internal threads in blind hole configurations. Approved material applications include alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. It is particularly well-suited for applications where chip evacuation is difficult or where thread strength is a priority over standard cut-tap methods.
Designed for blind hole thread forming in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Suitable for any application requiring M8x1.25 metric coarse internal threads at a 6H class of fit.
This tap is installed using a standard tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC machine tool holder sized for the 8.08 mm shank diameter. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole diameter is correctly sized for thread forming before beginning the operation — consult OSG or standard thread forming drill charts for the appropriate hole size. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to reduce tool wear and forming torque. Because this is a thread forming tap, do not use it as a direct replacement for a cut tap without verifying that the workpiece material is suitable for cold forming.
