The OSG 1410104205 is a bottoming-chamfer thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting chips. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a TiN coating, it generates M8x1.25 metric coarse threads in a single pass through ductile and ferrous workpiece materials. The bottoming chamfer — 1 to 1.5 thread pitches — allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Overall length is 2.7165 inches (69.10 mm), with a thread length of 0.5906 inches (15.00 mm) and a tapping depth of 1.1260 inches (28.60 mm). The 4H class of fit with a D5 thread limit produces clean, consistent threads suitable for precision fastener applications.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading operations in machine shops, manufacturing floors, and maintenance environments. The thread forming process displaces material rather than removing it, producing stronger threads with better surface finish in ductile materials. Applicable workpiece materials include alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Right-hand threading direction makes it compatible with standard tapping heads and CNC machining centers. No coolant-through capability is present, so external cutting fluid or paste lubricant is recommended during operation.

Installation should be performed by a machinist or tooling professional using a calibrated tapping head, tapping arm, or CNC machine set to the correct spindle speed and feed rate for the workpiece material. Always apply an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping paste before use — no coolant-through port is present on this tap. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping to prevent movement that can cause thread misalignment or tap breakage. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace at the first sign of degradation.
