The OSG 1410103808 is a thread forming tap designed for metric coarse threading in blind hole applications. It carries an M6x1.00 thread size with a modified bottoming chamfer of 2 to 2.5 threads, making it well suited for threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a TiCN coating, the tap resists heat and wear in demanding materials. With an overall length of 2.48 inches and a thread length of 0.47 inches, it fits standard tapping chucks and holders used in machining and fabrication work. The D5 thread limit and 4H class of fit deliver consistent, tight-tolerance threads. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians install this tap in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping setups.
This tap is rated for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The thread forming process displaces material rather than cutting it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear from the hole. It is part of the OSG HY-PRO NRT series, which is designed for high-productivity tapping in right-hand thread applications. It is appropriate for production runs and maintenance applications across metal fabrication, automotive, aerospace, and industrial equipment repair environments where blind hole threading is required.
Designed for use in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring M6x1.00 metric coarse blind hole threads. Material application codes P and N apply.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians using a tapping chuck, CNC tapping cycle, or hand tap wrench. Ensure the pre-drilled pilot hole diameter matches the recommended forming tap drill size for M6x1.00 before tapping. Apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Never reverse the tap abruptly under load; back it out gradually if resistance increases to avoid breakage.
