The OSG 1410103005 is a thread forming tap designed for creating M5x0.80 metric coarse internal threads in blind holes. Unlike cutting taps, this tool displaces material rather than removing it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. It is built from cobalt high-speed steel for elevated heat and wear resistance, and carries a TiN coating to reduce friction and extend tool life. With a bottoming chamfer of 1 to 1.5 threads, it reaches close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it well suited for tight-tolerance assemblies. A class of fit 4H and thread limit D4 define the tolerance range it produces. This tap is part of the OSG HY-PRO NRT series and is installed by machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance professionals.
This tap is rated for blind hole threading across a broad range of materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The thread forming action is particularly effective in ductile materials where chip-free threading reduces the risk of hole blockage and rework. Typical applications include precision component manufacturing, fixture fabrication, and production environments where consistent 4H thread quality is required in M5 tapped holes.
Designed for use in blind hole threading applications in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces where M5x0.80 metric coarse 4H threads are required.
This tap is installed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a tapping machine, CNC machining center, or hand tap wrench rated for the shank diameter. Secure the workpiece before tapping and ensure the pilot hole diameter is correct for thread forming in the specific workpiece material, as forming taps require a larger pilot hole than cutting taps. Apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material to reduce galling, particularly in stainless and hardened steels. Coolant-through is not supported on this tool.
