The OSG 1410102905 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for M4x0.70 metric coarse internal threading. Unlike cutting taps, this plug-style forming tap displaces material rather than removing it, producing stronger, work-hardened threads with no chips to clear. Constructed from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating, it is built for demanding production and maintenance threading work. The 4 to 4.5 chamfered thread pitch allows for controlled lead-in on plug applications, and the right-hand thread direction suits standard through-hole threading operations.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. It fits machine tapping setups in both production shop and maintenance environments where M4 metric coarse threads are required. The compact overall length of 54.00 mm and shank diameter of 4.27 mm make it compatible with standard CNC, drill press, and tapping arm setups used in metalworking trades.
Designed for M4x0.70 metric coarse through-hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Material application codes P and N confirm suitability for steel and non-ferrous material groups per ISO classification.
Thread forming taps require a proper forming tap drill size, which differs from standard cut tap drill charts — use the correct recommended drill diameter for M4x0.70 forming taps to achieve the target thread percentage. Apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil suited to the workpiece material before tapping. Secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is properly aligned to avoid thread distortion or tap breakage. This tool is intended for use by qualified machinists or metalworking tradespeople familiar with machine tapping procedures.
