The OSG 1410102901 is a plug-chamfer thread forming tap designed for M4x0.70 metric coarse threading applications. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and coated with a steam oxide finish, this tap generates internal threads by displacing material rather than cutting it, which produces a stronger thread form and eliminates chips. It carries a D6 thread limit and a 6H class of fit. The HY-PRO NRT series is engineered for through-hole threading operations in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this tap in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping setups.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The cobalt composition provides added heat resistance, making it appropriate for tougher alloys that generate elevated cutting temperatures. The steam oxide coating reduces friction and improves lubrication retention during the forming process. Typical applications include precision fastener holes in machined components, fixtures, and fabricated assemblies where thread integrity and dimensional accuracy are critical.
Designed for through-hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring M4x0.70 metric coarse internal threads.
This tap should be installed in a tapping chuck or floating tap holder to allow axial compensation during through-hole operations. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole diameter is correctly sized for thread forming before beginning. Apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material to reduce friction and heat buildup. Always power down spindle rotation completely before reversing or removing the tap to avoid thread damage or tool breakage.
