The OSG 1410102300 is a thread forming tap designed for metric coarse internal threading without cutting chips. Made from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, this plug-style tap produces strong, work-hardened threads by displacing material rather than removing it. The M3.5x0.60 thread size and 6H class of fit make it a precise, reliable choice for through-hole threading operations in production and maintenance environments. With an overall length of 2 inches and a right-hand thread direction, it is compatible with standard tap handles and tapping heads used by machinists and maintenance technicians.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading in a range of metallic workpiece materials including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The plug chamfer with 4 to 4.5 chamfered threads allows for gradual thread forming entry, making it appropriate for blind and through-hole applications where chip evacuation is a concern. It fits standard machining setups in job shops, manufacturing facilities, and MRO environments requiring consistent M3.5 metric thread production.

Thread forming taps are installed by machinists using standard tap handles, tapping attachments, or CNC machining centers. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the pilot hole diameter is correctly sized for thread forming — pilot hole requirements differ from cutting tap specifications. Apply appropriate tapping fluid for the workpiece material before tapping. Do not use coolant-through operation with this tap, as it is not rated for coolant through delivery.
