The OSG 1410102101 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads in ductile materials without cutting or removing chips. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a steam oxide coating, this tap handles blind hole threading applications where chip evacuation is a concern. It carries an M3.5x0.60 metric coarse thread profile, a modified bottoming chamfer of 2 to 2.5 threads, and a 6H class of fit with a D6 thread limit. The 2.0 inch overall length and 0.141 inch shank diameter suit standard tap holders used in machine shop and production environments. Licensed machinists and tooling technicians are the primary installers.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The thread forming method displaces material rather than cutting it, producing stronger threads with better surface finish in ductile workpieces. It is a good fit for production machining, CNC tapping centers, and manual tapping operations where a right-hand M3.5x0.60 metric coarse thread is required. This tap should be installed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with thread forming operations. Power down or lock out any machine tool before loading or removing taps from holders. Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill hole, which differs from a cut tap drill size - consult the appropriate forming tap drill chart for M3.5x0.60 before drilling. Use a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain thread quality.
