The OSG 1410101701 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting, using material displacement to produce stronger threads with a smoother finish. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a steam oxide coating, this tap handles demanding applications in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. It carries an M3x0.50 Metric Coarse thread specification with a Class of Fit 6H and Thread Limit D5. The modified bottoming chamfer, with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. This tool is part of OSG's HY-PRO NRT series, engineered for high-performance blind hole threading in production machining environments.
This tap is suited for use in blind hole threading operations across a range of workpiece materials including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. It is appropriate for CNC machining centers, tapping machines, and rigid tapping setups where right-hand thread forming at M3x0.50 Metric Coarse is required. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it particularly useful when thread depth must reach close to hole bottom in tight-tolerance applications. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and production machine operators are the primary users.
Designed for M3x0.50 Metric Coarse blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Part of OSG HY-PRO NRT Series 14101.
Thread forming taps require a specifically sized forming tap drill — consult OSG tooling charts for the correct pre-drill diameter for M3x0.50 in the target material. Use appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material; do not run dry. Ensure the tapping machine or CNC spindle is set for rigid tapping with synchronized feed to match the 0.50 mm pitch. Inspect shank seating and tap holder condition before use to avoid tap breakage in blind holes.
