The OSG 1410101600 is a cobalt thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads in ductile metals without cutting. It carries an M3x0.50 Metric Coarse thread profile and a modified bottoming chamfer of 2 to 2.5 threads, making it suitable for blind hole threading where full thread depth close to the bottom of the bore is required. The overall length is 1.9291 inches (49.20 mm) with a thread length of 0.2441 inches (6.20 mm) and a tapping depth of 0.6299 inches (16.00 mm). The bright finish is uncoated, preserving the base cobalt material properties. This tap belongs to the OSG HY-PRO NRT Series and is intended for use by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and production floor operators.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading applications in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The M3x0.50 thread size and right-hand thread direction make it a standard choice for metric fastener tapping in precision machined components, fixtures, and assemblies. It is commonly used in production environments where chip-free threading is preferred to avoid evacuation issues in blind holes. The 4H class of fit with a D3 thread limit provides a tight tolerance suitable for standard metric fastener engagement.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Material application codes P and N indicate suitability for steel and non-ferrous material groups per ISO designation. Compatible with standard M3 tapping chucks and holders accepting a 0.1410-inch (3.58 mm) shank diameter.
This tap is installed by machinists using a tapping chuck, CNC rigid tapping spindle, or manual tap wrench sized for the 0.1100-inch (2.79 mm) square drive. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pre-drilled hole diameter matches the recommended drill size for M3x0.50 thread forming taps before use. Thread forming taps require appropriate lubrication for the workpiece material - do not run dry on steel or stainless steel. Coolant-through is not supported on this tap; apply cutting fluid externally at the tap entry.
