The OSG 1410101005 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting. Rather than removing material, it displaces metal to produce stronger, work-hardened threads with no chip generation. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiN coating, this tap handles demanding applications including hardened steel and stainless steel. It is configured with a modified bottoming chamfer of 2 to 2.5 threads, allowing threads to be formed close to the bottom of a blind hole. The overall length is 1.813 inches and the thread length is 0.512 inches. Class of fit is 4H with a D3 thread limit, right-hand thread direction.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading in ferrous and non-ferrous materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The M2.5x0.45 Metric Coarse thread form makes it a common choice for small fastener tapping in precision machined components, fixture building, and production machining environments.
