The OSG 1410101001 is a thread forming tap designed for producing M2.5x0.45 metric coarse internal threads without cutting chips. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a steam oxide coating, this tap displaces material rather than removing it, resulting in stronger thread forms and longer tool life in production environments. The modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. At 1.813 inches overall length and a shank diameter of 0.141 inches, it is sized for small-diameter tapping applications in precision machining and metalworking operations. It is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The HY-PRO NRT series is engineered for cold-forming applications where thread integrity and hole surface finish are critical. It is commonly used in CNC tapping centers, turret lathes, and manual tapping setups where small metric threads are required in production or repair work. The 4H class of fit and D3 thread limit make it appropriate for standard metric tolerance requirements.
Designed for blind hole thread forming in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring M2.5x0.45 metric coarse threads at a 4H class of fit.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with thread forming operations. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the correct tap drill size for a thread forming operation is used, as forming taps require a larger pilot hole than cutting taps for the same thread size. Apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil before and during the operation. Do not exceed the recommended tapping depth of 0.551 inches to avoid bottoming out and tool breakage.
