The OSG 1410100701 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting, eliminating chips in the process. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, it produces M2x0.40 Metric Coarse threads using a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, making it well suited for blind hole applications where thread engagement must start close to the bottom. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a steam oxide coating, this tap offers increased heat resistance and lubricity. It carries a 6H class of fit with a D5 thread limit. Installation is performed by licensed machinists and tooling professionals working in precision machining and fabrication environments.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading in a range of materials including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the base of a blind hole than a standard plug or taper chamfer. Its compact M2 thread size makes it a common choice for small fastener applications in precision assemblies, electronics hardware, and instrumentation components. Right-hand thread direction applies to standard machine tapping operations on CNC equipment or manual tapping fixtures.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Material application codes P and N apply. Suitable for use in CNC machining centers and manual tapping setups requiring M2x0.40 Metric Coarse right-hand internal threads.
Thread forming taps require proper tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate to the workpiece material to prevent galling and tool failure. Ensure the tapping hole diameter is sized correctly for thread forming, as forming taps require a larger pilot hole than cutting taps of the same thread size. Secure the workpiece fully before operation and confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the material and tap diameter. This tap does not have coolant-through capability, so external lubrication is required.
