The OSG 1410100600 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting, producing stronger threads by displacing material rather than removing it. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, this tap handles the demands of hard and abrasive workpiece materials. It carries an M2x0.40 Metric Coarse thread specification with a modified bottoming chamfer of 2 to 2.5 threads, allowing it to form threads close to the bottom of blind holes. The 4H class of fit and D3 thread limit ensure consistent, tolerance-controlled results suited to precision machining environments. It is part of the OSG HY-PRO NRT series.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading operations across a range of metallic workpiece materials including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it particularly well suited to applications where thread depth is limited and full thread engagement near the hole bottom is required. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and job shop environments will find this tap appropriate for CNC tapping centers and manual machines running right-hand threads.
Designed for M2x0.40 Metric Coarse blind hole threading applications in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces (material application codes P and N).
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill hole, which is larger than a standard cut tap drill size - consult an M2x0.40 forming tap drill chart before drilling. Power down the machine and secure the workpiece before tap installation. Apply an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting compound for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tap life. This tap is intended for use by qualified machinists familiar with tapping torque limits for small-diameter taps, as M2 taps are susceptible to breakage under excessive load.
