The OSG 1410100500 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting chips. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, it produces an M2x0.40 Metric Coarse thread profile using a bottoming chamfer, making it suited for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. The tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and carries a bright finish. With a 6H class of fit and D5 thread limit, it delivers consistent thread geometry in demanding production environments. Licensed machinists and precision manufacturing technicians are the primary installers of this tool.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading applications across a broad range of metallic workpiece materials. It is well suited for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The bottoming chamfer of 1 to 1.5 thread pitches allows threading to near the full depth of shallow blind holes where a plug or taper chamfer would leave insufficient thread count. It is a standard choice in CNC machining, manual tapping, and production toolroom operations requiring tight metric threads in small-diameter holes.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Material application codes P and N confirm suitability for steel and non-ferrous alloy groups. Compatible with standard M2x0.40 Metric Coarse thread specifications and 6H tolerance class requirements.
This tool is installed and operated by machinists and toolroom technicians using manual tap handles, tapping heads, or CNC rigid tapping cycles. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole diameter is correct for thread forming before beginning the tapping operation. Thread forming taps require lubrication appropriate to the workpiece material — consult the material manufacturer or tooling data sheet for recommended cutting fluid type. Do not reverse the tap under load without confirming the machine or handle supports controlled reversal.
