The OSG 1400153500 is a thread forming tap designed for blind hole threading in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, this 3/4-10 UNC tap uses a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, allowing it to thread close to the bottom of a blind hole. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright coating, it measures 4.25 inches overall length with a thread limit of H6. The right-hand, single-point thread forming action displaces material rather than cutting chips, reducing the risk of chip clogging in blind holes. Licensed machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians working on structural assemblies typically install this tap.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading operations in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Thread forming taps should be installed in a rigid tapping setup or CNC tapping cycle with synchronized spindle and feed to prevent thread damage. Power down all equipment and secure the workpiece before beginning any tapping operation. Use an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material — this is especially important when working with stainless steel or hardened steel. Follow shop standards and applicable safety codes when operating machine tools.
