The OSG 1400121905 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting or producing chips. This plug-chamfer tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating for extended tool life in demanding applications. At 2.375 inches overall length with a thread limit of H10 and 32 threads per inch, it produces 10-32 UNF right-hand threads. It is suited for production machining environments where clean, strong threads are required in through-hole applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users.
This tap is engineered for through-hole threading operations across a broad range of metallic workpiece materials. Its 4 to 4.5 chamfered threads provide a standard plug chamfer entry suitable for through-holes where the tap can pass completely through the material. A shank diameter of 0.194 inches and square drive size of 0.152 inches make it compatible with standard tap holders and tapping heads used in vertical machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping fixtures. The H10 thread limit designation suits close-tolerance 10-32 UNF threaded holes commonly found in aerospace, automotive, and precision mechanical assemblies.
Rated for use in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Material application codes P and N indicate suitability for steel and non-ferrous materials respectively. Designed for through-hole threading in standard 10-32 UNF applications.
Thread forming taps require adequate lubrication or cutting fluid matched to the workpiece material - consult the fluid manufacturer for recommendations by material type. Ensure the tap holder provides proper axial float to prevent thread pitch distortion. Power down or de-energize any CNC spindle and verify machine is in a safe state before tool changes. Do not use this tap in blind holes without confirming sufficient tapping depth clearance, as thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it.
