The OSG 1400121301 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting. Unlike cutting taps, it displaces material to create a stronger, chip-free thread form. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a steam oxide coating, this tap handles demanding applications including alloy steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, carbon steel, die steel, and aluminum. It produces 10-32 UNF threads to a Class 3B fit with a Thread Limit of H4. The plug chamfer with 4 to 4.5 chamfered threads provides a standard starting geometry suited to through-hole threading in production and maintenance environments. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary users.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading applications across a wide range of materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, die steel, hardened steel, and aluminum. The right-hand thread direction and 32 threads per inch make it a direct fit for 10-32 UNF fastener applications in aerospace, automotive, and general industrial machining. The HY-PRO NRT series is engineered for use without coolant-through capability, making it compatible with standard tap holders and machine setups where external flood or mist cooling is applied.
Designed for through-hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Material Application Codes P and N confirm suitability across ferrous and non-ferrous material groups.
Thread forming taps require adequate lubrication — use a tapping fluid appropriate for the workpiece material before starting. Ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the workpiece surface before applying torque to avoid cross-threading or tap breakage. Secure the workpiece fully before tapping and use a calibrated tap wrench or machine holder rated for the tap shank diameter. Follow shop safety practices and applicable OSHA standards when operating tapping equipment.
