The OSG 1400121000 is a thread forming tap designed for 10-32 UNF right-hand threads in blind hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap features a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, allowing it to thread close to the bottom of a blind hole. Made from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, it carries a H10 thread limit and measures 2.375 inches in overall length. It is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on precision assemblies requiring clean, formed threads.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading in a range of materials including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The HY-PRO NRT series from OSG is engineered for cold-forming applications where chip-free threading is required, making it well suited for production machining environments and precision repair work. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it the right choice when thread engagement must begin close to the hole bottom.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces per material application codes P and N. Part of the OSG HY-PRO NRT Series 14001.
Installation is performed by machinists using a standard tapping chuck, tap wrench, or CNC tapping cycle. Ensure the pilot hole diameter is correctly sized for a thread forming tap in the target material before tapping — thread forming taps require a larger pilot hole than cutting taps of the same thread size. Secure the workpiece fully before operation and apply appropriate tapping fluid for the workpiece material. Power down any machine spindle and confirm zero RPM before manually handling or changing the tap.
