The OSG 1400118501 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting. It produces a 10-24 UNC right-hand thread using a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, making it suited for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a steam oxide coating, it handles demanding materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, die steel, and aluminum. The H6 thread limit ensures a Class 2B fit. Licensed machinists and tool-room professionals use this tap in production and repair applications across metalworking trades.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading deeper into a blind hole than a standard bottoming tap while still providing more lead-in than a plug chamfer. It is well suited for CNC tapping centers, drill presses with tapping attachments, and hand tapping operations where a close-to-bottom thread is required. Material application codes P and N confirm suitability for steel and non-ferrous aluminum alloys. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant or cutting fluid application is required during use.
Designed for use in blind hole threading applications on alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum workpieces requiring a 10-24 UNC internal thread to a Class 2B fit.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill hole, which differs from a standard cut tap drill size — consult a thread forming drill chart before drilling. Power down and secure the workpiece before tap installation. Apply an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil during the operation; this tap has no internal coolant-through feature. Verify spindle speed and feed rate are matched to the tap size and workpiece material per the tap manufacturer recommendations before running in a CNC or power-tapping application.
