The OSG 1400115100 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting. Rather than removing material, it displaces metal to create strong, work-hardened threads. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, this tap handles a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It is sized for 8-32 UNC threads with a plug chamfer of 4 to 4.5 threads, an H2 thread limit, and a right-hand thread direction. Overall length is 2.125 inches with a tapping depth of 0.752 inches. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this tap in production and maintenance applications where thread strength and chip-free operation are priorities.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading operations in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The plug chamfer style makes it appropriate for through-holes where the tap can pass fully through the workpiece, distributing the forming load gradually across the leading threads. It fits standard tap holders and drivers used in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand tapping setups. Typical applications include fastener hole preparation in fabrication shops, machine shops, and maintenance environments where 8-32 UNC fasteners are standard.
Designed for through-hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring 8-32 UNC right-hand threads. Compatible with standard tap holders sized for a 0.168-inch shank diameter.
Thread forming taps require adequate lubrication or tapping fluid matched to the workpiece material - dry tapping is not recommended. Secure the workpiece fully before tapping and ensure the tap is properly aligned to avoid thread skew or tap breakage. Use appropriate torque-controlled tapping equipment where available, particularly in production settings. Observe standard shop safety practices including eye protection and machine guarding during all tapping operations.
