The OSG 1400114100 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads in a variety of metals without cutting or removing material. At 8-32 UNC with a bottoming chamfer and 1 to 1.5 chamfered threads, this tap is built to thread close to the bottom of a blind hole. The cobalt construction and bright finish give it durability and heat resistance for demanding tapping applications. With an overall length of 2.125 inches and a tapping depth of 0.752 inches, it is sized for precision work in production and job-shop environments. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading in a range of metallic workpiece materials. Rated for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, it covers the most common materials encountered in machining and fabrication shops. The right-hand thread direction and H5 thread limit make it well-suited for standard UNC threaded fastener fits in tight-tolerance assemblies. It is sold individually and fits standard tap holders and drive chucks compatible with the 0.168-inch shank diameter and 0.131-inch square drive size.
Designed for use in blind hole threading applications across alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum workpieces. Fits standard tap holders accepting a 0.168-inch shank diameter with a 0.131-inch square drive.
Thread forming taps require a specific drill size for the pilot hole — consult an approved thread forming tap drill chart for the correct hole diameter before tapping, as undersized or oversized holes will damage threads or break the tap. Power down and secure the workpiece before beginning. Use a recommended tapping fluid or cutting oil matched to the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tap life. A calibrated torque-limiting tap adapter is strongly advised to prevent tap breakage in hard materials.
