The OSG 1400111200 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than remove it, producing stronger threads with a better surface finish and no chips to clear. This tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish and is sized for 6-32 UNC threads. It features a plug chamfer with 4 to 4.5 chamfered threads for progressive thread engagement. Overall length is 2 inches, with a shank diameter of 0.141 inches and a tapping depth of 0.685 inches. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians use this tap in production and repair applications requiring consistent, chip-free threaded holes.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The right-hand thread direction and H2 thread limit make it appropriate for standard tolerance threaded assemblies. It is commonly used in machine shops, manufacturing facilities, and maintenance operations where 6-32 UNC fastener threads are required in tight-clearance or blind-hole-adjacent through-hole configurations.
Designed for through-hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring 6-32 UNC internal threads. Material application codes P and N apply.
Thread forming taps require higher torque than cutting taps and must be used with a tapping fluid rated for the workpiece material. A machinist or tool-and-die technician should verify that the tap drill size corresponds to the recommended thread forming pilot diameter for 6-32 UNC before use. Secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is driven perpendicular to the work surface to prevent tap breakage. Do not use in blind holes without confirming sufficient depth clearance for the forming action.
