The OSG 1400110408 is a thread forming tap designed for blind hole threading in a wide range of metals. It cuts a 6-32 UNC thread profile using a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, allowing close approach to the bottom of a blind hole. The tap body is cobalt high-speed steel with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating that extends tool life by reducing friction and heat buildup. Overall length is 2 inches with a shank diameter of 0.141 inches. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this tap in production and repair applications where precise internal threading is required.
This tap is suited for threading blind holes in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it effective where thread depth must be maximized near the closed end of a hole. The HY-PRO NRT series geometry is engineered for form tapping, displacing material rather than cutting chips, which is advantageous in ductile metals and situations where chip evacuation is difficult. Thread direction is right hand with a Class 3B fit and H3 thread limit, producing a close-tolerance internal thread appropriate for precision fastener applications.
Rated for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Material application codes P and N as designated by OSG for the HY-PRO NRT series.
This tap should be installed in a tapping chuck or rigid holder appropriate for the machine tool in use. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole diameter is correct for a 6-32 UNC form tap before beginning the operation. Apply a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material to protect the coating and extend tap life. Follow OSHA and shop-specific lockout procedures when setting up the tap in any power-driven machine.
