The OSG 1400110400 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for 6-32 UNC right-hand threads in blind hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap features a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, allowing threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Made from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, it carries a thread limit of H3 and a Class 3B fit. Overall length is 2 inches with a tapping depth of 0.685 inches. It is installed by machinists and tool-and-die technicians in production and maintenance environments.
This tap is suited for threading blind holes in a range of metals including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it the right choice when thread depth close to the bottom of the hole is required and chip accumulation cannot be tolerated. The cobalt construction supports use in tougher alloys and harder materials where standard high-speed steel taps wear prematurely. It is a single-piece tool packaged individually.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring 6-32 UNC threads at a Class 3B fit. Material Application Codes P and N apply per the input data.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill hole — use the correct tap drill for the material and desired thread percentage before tapping. Power down or de-energize any CNC or tapping machine before loading the tool. Apply an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material to reduce galling, especially in stainless steel and hardened steel. Follow applicable shop safety and machine-guarding practices during setup and operation.
