The OSG 1400110208 is a thread forming tap designed for creating 6-32 UNC internal threads in blind hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this tap handles demanding materials including hardened steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, and aluminum. It carries a bottoming chamfer with 1 to 1.5 chamfered threads, allowing threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Overall length is 2 inches with a shank diameter of 0.141 inches. This is part of the OSG HY-PRO NRT series, engineered for right-hand thread production in precision machining and manufacturing environments.
This tap is suited for machine shops, toolrooms, and production environments where 6-32 UNC blind hole threading is required. The bottoming chamfer design makes it the right choice when thread engagement must start near the bottom of a hole with minimal runout. Applicable materials include alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel, covering a broad range of typical workpiece materials encountered in fabrication and assembly operations. Machinists, toolmakers, and CNC operators working on tight-tolerance assemblies will find this tap consistent with standard toolholder setups for tapping cycles.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling option for 6-32 UNC blind hole tapping operations. Compatible material application codes P and N cover a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials as specified by OSG for the HY-PRO NRT series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator following standard tapping procedures for the applicable machine tool. Ensure the spindle and tapping cycle parameters are set for right-hand thread forming before engaging the tap. Use appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material to protect the coating and extend tool life. Never reverse the tap under power without verifying the machine is programmed for rigid or floating tap cycle reversal.
