The OSG 1400110205 is a bottoming-chamfer thread forming tap designed for creating internal threads in blind holes without cutting chips. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, it is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel with a TiN coating for extended tool life in demanding applications. The tap produces 6-32 UNC right-hand threads with an H5 thread limit and a Class 2B fit. At 2 inches overall length with a 0.370-inch thread length and 0.685-inch tapping depth, this tap suits precision threading work performed by machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance professionals working in metal fabrication and repair environments.
This tap is engineered for blind hole threading in a range of metallic workpiece materials including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The bottoming chamfer (1 to 1.5 thread lead) allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it well suited for tight-tolerance fastener applications where thread engagement depth is critical. The forming action displaces material rather than cutting it, resulting in stronger threads with no chip evacuation concerns.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Material application codes P and N apply. Suitable for use in any setup requiring 6-32 UNC internal threads with a Class 2B fit.
Thread forming taps require a specific forming tap drill size distinct from cutting tap drill charts — verify the correct drill diameter for the material and fit class before starting. Use an appropriate tapping lubricant or cutting fluid matched to the workpiece material; forming taps generate higher torque than cutting taps, so ensure the tap handle or tapping attachment is rated for the load. Power down and secure any CNC or drill press before changing tooling. Do not use this tap in through-hole applications where chip-forming taps are specified, as forming taps rely on material ductility for proper thread formation.
