The OSG 1400109100 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting or producing chips. It carries a 5-44 UNF thread specification with a modified bottoming chamfer of 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, making it well-suited for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, the tap delivers added heat and wear resistance in demanding drilling environments. The H5 thread limit and Class 2B fit ensure consistent, on-spec thread geometry. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and precision machine shops are the typical end users.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading applications across a wide range of materials. Its material application includes alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel, making it a versatile choice for production and maintenance shops working with mixed workpiece materials. The right-hand thread direction and standard 5-44 UNF configuration make it a direct-fit option for precision fastener applications in aerospace, automotive, and general manufacturing contexts where fine-thread engagement in small-diameter holes is required.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring a 5-44 UNF Class 2B internal thread.
This tap should be installed in a rigid tapping holder or CNC tapping head by a qualified machinist. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole diameter is correctly sized for thread forming before operation. Coolant through is not available on this tap, so appropriate surface-applied cutting fluid should be used based on workpiece material. Follow shop-standard speeds and feeds for cobalt thread forming taps on the target material to avoid tap breakage or thread distortion.
