The OSG 1400104500 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for 3-56 UNF right-hand internal threads in blind hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear from the hole. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, this tap handles a broad range of workpiece materials. It features a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, allowing thread forming close to the bottom of a blind hole. Overall length is 1.813 inches with a thread limit of H4. Installed by machinists and tool and die technicians in precision manufacturing environments.

Use an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil matched to the workpiece material. Secure the workpiece and align the tap perpendicular to the hole before applying torque to avoid tap breakage in small-diameter applications. This tool is typically operated by machinists using a tapping head, CNC machine, or hand tap wrench at controlled speed and feed.
