The OSG 1400103105 is a thread forming tap designed for cutting 2-64 UNF internal threads in blind hole applications. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, it is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and features a titanium nitride (TiN) coating for improved wear resistance and tool life. The modified bottoming chamfer, with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. At 1.75 inches overall length with a thread length of 0.437 inches, this tap is suited for small, precision threading work in production and maintenance environments. It is installed by machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople working with tapping machines, CNC equipment, or hand tapping setups.
This tap is rated for use in a broad range of metallic materials including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Material application codes P and N confirm suitability for ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It is well suited for production shops, aerospace component work, and precision machining applications where a 2-64 UNF thread standard and Class 3B fit are required. The right-hand thread direction is standard for most tapping operations.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring a 2-64 UNF Class 3B internal thread.
This tap is installed by qualified machinists using a tapping machine, CNC machining center, or manual tapping handle with appropriate torque control. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole diameter is correctly sized for 2-64 UNF thread forming before beginning. Use a cutting fluid or tapping compound rated for the workpiece material to reduce friction and prevent tap breakage. Cobalt taps in small diameters are brittle under side-loading — maintain proper axial alignment throughout the tapping operation.
