The OSG 1400100800 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting, generating stronger thread forms by displacing material rather than removing chips. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, this tap handles the demanding tolerances of a 1-64 UNC thread in a modified bottoming chamfer configuration. The H2 thread limit holds tight tolerance control for Class 3B fits. With a 2 to 2.5 chamfered thread lead, it is suited to blind hole applications where the tap must reach close to the bottom of the hole. Licensed HVAC technicians, machinists, and maintenance professionals working in precision assembly rely on this tap when thread integrity in small-diameter fastener locations is critical.
This tap is used in blind hole threading operations across a wide range of metalworking applications. It is rated for use in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it appropriate for shallow blind holes where a standard taper or plug chamfer would leave insufficient fully formed threads. It fits production and maintenance environments where 1-64 UNC threads are required in tight spaces or close-tolerance assemblies.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring a 1-64 UNC Class 3B internal thread. Part of the OSG HY-PRO NRT Series 14001.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill hole, which is larger than a standard cut tap drill size — consult OSG or published forming tap drill charts for the correct hole diameter before use. Use a tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tap life. Secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is properly aligned before engagement to prevent tap breakage in this small diameter. Follow all machine guarding and PPE requirements per applicable shop safety standards.
