The OSG 1212802 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It produces 8-32 UNC threads with a plug chamfer that makes it suitable for through-hole tapping applications. Built from high-speed steel with an elektraLUBE coating, this tap delivers reduced friction and improved chip flow during threading operations. It features a 2-flute design with a right-hand thread direction and an H3 thread limit, providing consistent 2B class of fit tolerances. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals rely on this type of tap for production threading in machine shops and maintenance environments.
The OSG 1212802 is suited for through-hole tapping in both manual and CNC machine applications. Its material compatibility spans a broad spectrum, including aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. The plug chamfer style makes it most effective when threading through-holes where the tap can pass completely through the workpiece. It is commonly used in job shop production, MRO maintenance, and precision assembly work where a reliable 8-32 UNC thread form is required.
Designed for tapping 8-32 UNC threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel workpieces. Part of the OSG Series 105 tap line.
This tap is intended for installation by machinists using standard tapping equipment, including drill presses, CNC machining centers, or hand tapping tools. Always ensure the tap is properly aligned with the drilled pilot hole before engagement to prevent tap breakage. Secure the workpiece firmly before threading operations begin. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material when not using the built-in lubrication coating alone, and follow standard machine shop safety practices when operating rotating cutting tools.
