The OSG 1210001 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting internal 0-80 UNF threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, reducing chip packing and allowing the tap to run at higher feed rates compared to standard hand taps. The tool is manufactured from high-speed steel with a steam oxide finish that improves lubricity and corrosion resistance during service. With an overall length of 1.625 inches and a thread length of 0.3125 inches, this tap is sized for precision work in small-diameter through-hole applications. The H3 thread limit indicates a controlled oversize tolerance suitable for standard UNF fits.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading operations in production and maintenance environments. The plug chamfer style makes it appropriate for through-holes where the tap can fully advance past the bottom of the required thread. It is used in light manufacturing, instrument repair, electronics assembly, and general mechanical work where 0-80 UNF fasteners are specified. Compatible materials include aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. The right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional fastener applications.
Designed for cutting 0-80 UNF internal threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel workpieces. No coolant-through feature; suitable for use with applied cutting fluid.
Install in a suitable tap holder or tapping machine and ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured before operation. Power down any machine tool and confirm zero-energy state before changing or inspecting the tap. Use a compatible cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use, as small-diameter taps are susceptible to breakage if advanced with excessive force or misalignment.
