The OSG 1205605 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting internal threads in through-hole applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it handles a broad range of workpiece materials with improved wear resistance and reduced friction. The tap cuts a 2-56 UNC thread profile with a plug chamfer, 2 flutes, and a right-hand thread direction. Class of fit is 2B with an H2 thread limit. Overall length is 1.75 inches, and thread length is 0.441 inches (7/16 inches). This tap is used by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians working on small-fastener threading operations.
The 1205605 is suited for threading through-holes in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. Its spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it well-matched for production and repair work where through-hole access allows chip evacuation. The 2-56 UNC thread size is common in small instrument hardware, electronics enclosures, and precision mechanical assemblies.
Designed for use in through-hole tapping operations requiring a 2-56 UNC thread form. Compatible with standard tap handles and tapping heads sized for the 0.141-inch shank diameter. Rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel workpieces.
This tap should be installed in a properly sized tap wrench or machine tapping chuck before use. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole diameter is correct for a 2-56 UNC thread prior to tapping. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tap life. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use, and never force a tap that has stalled in the hole.
