The OSG 1203400 is a spiral point tap designed to cut 10-24 UNC internal threads in through-hole applications. Also called a gun tap, the spiral point pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, keeping the flutes clear and reducing the risk of chip packing. Built from high-speed steel with a bright finish, this tap runs at standard cutting speeds across a wide range of workpiece materials. The plug chamfer distributes cutting load across several leading threads, making it the standard choice for most production and maintenance tapping operations. The overall length is 2.375 inches with a thread length of 0.875 inches and a shank diameter of 0.194 inches.
This tap is suited for through-hole tapping on manual drill presses, CNC machining centers, and tapping heads in both job-shop and production environments. It performs in a broad range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. The right-hand thread direction and H1 thread limit make it a direct fit for standard 10-24 UNC fastener applications in general machining, maintenance and repair, and light fabrication work.
Designed for through-hole tapping of 10-24 UNC threads. Compatible with material applications including aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel.
This tap should be installed in a tap holder, tapping head, or rigid CNC tap cycle appropriate for the machine being used. Secure the workpiece fully before tapping and use a cutting fluid or tapping compound suited to the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Verify spindle speed and feed rate are set for the material and tap size before starting the cut. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use, as a damaged tap can produce undersized threads or break in the hole.
