The OSG 1200600800 is a standard pipe tap designed to cut internal NPTF (National Pipe Taper Fuel) threads in a 3/8-18 size. It is built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish and features 4 flutes for chip evacuation during threading operations. The tap measures 2.563 inches in overall length with a 1.0625-inch thread length, a 0.700-inch shank diameter, and a 0.531-inch square size. It carries a regular hook profile and is intended for use by machinists, pipefitters, and plumbing trades requiring precision pipe thread cutting in production or field repair settings.
This tap is suited for threading carbon steel, cast iron, and aluminum workpieces. NPTF threads provide a pressure-tight seal without relying solely on thread sealant, making this tap appropriate for hydraulic, pneumatic, and fuel line fittings as well as plumbing and HVAC piping connections. It is a single-piece, hand or machine tap compatible with standard tap wrenches and CNC tapping operations where a 3/8-18 NPTF internal thread is required.
Designed as an OEM-style pipe tap for use in any application requiring a 3/8-18 NPTF internal thread in carbon steel, cast iron, or aluminum material.
This tap should be used by qualified machinists, pipefitters, or plumbers familiar with pipe thread cutting procedures. Always secure the workpiece and use appropriate cutting fluid to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Apply consistent, controlled torque and back off periodically to break chips, especially in blind-hole applications. Follow applicable OSHA machine guarding and shop safety requirements when operating in a powered tapping setup.
