The OSG 1111600103 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting right-hand internal threads in through-hole applications. Built from Vanadium High Speed Steel (HSS-E) with a nitride coating, this tap handles the heat and wear demands of production tapping. It cuts an M3x0.50 Metric Coarse thread to a 6H class of fit with a D3 thread limit, delivering consistent tolerances across high-volume runs. The plug chamfer allows gradual thread engagement, reducing torque at entry. Three flutes push chips forward ahead of the tap, keeping the flutes clear during through-hole operations. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this tooling.
The 1111600103 is suited for through-hole tapping in aluminum and cast aluminum workpieces. Its spiral point geometry makes it a standard choice for CNC machining centers and drill presses where chip evacuation must remain consistent at speed. The M3x0.50 thread form is common in small fastener applications across automotive, electronics, and precision mechanical assemblies. With a thread length of 0.625 inches and a shank diameter of approximately 0.141 inches, this tap fits standard M3 tap holders and collet chucks. Series 11116 is OSGs production tapping line built around consistent thread quality at high cycle counts.
Designed for through-hole tapping of M3x0.50 Metric Coarse threads in aluminum and cast aluminum. Listed material applications per supplier data are aluminum and cast aluminum. No coolant-through feature; suitable for external coolant or cutting fluid application.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists using CNC machining centers, drill presses, or tapping heads with appropriate M3 tap holders or collet chucks. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is aligned axially with the drilled pilot hole before engaging the tap. Apply a suitable cutting fluid for aluminum to prevent built-up edge and extend tool life. Do not reverse the tap under power until it has fully cleared the thread to avoid breakage in small-diameter tooling.
