The OSG 1105611408 is a spiral point tap designed for threading 1/4-20 UNC holes in demanding materials. It is manufactured from powdered metal and coated with TiCN for extended tool life in tough applications. The plug chamfer provides a gradual cutting action suitable for through-hole threading operations. With 3 flutes and an H5 thread limit, this tap maintains consistent thread geometry and holds tight tolerances for 2B class of fit threads. It is used by machinists and maintenance technicians across metal fabrication, aerospace, and industrial repair applications where conventional high-speed steel taps wear too quickly.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading in hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, titanium, and alloy steel. The TiCN coating reduces friction and heat buildup, making it effective at higher cutting speeds compared to uncoated alternatives. The spiral point design pushes chips forward through the hole, making it well-suited for production environments and CNC tapping operations where chip evacuation is critical. The right-hand thread direction and standard UNC form make it a direct fit for most general-purpose 1/4-20 fastener applications in industrial and precision machining settings.
Designed for use in 1/4-20 UNC through-hole tapping applications in hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, titanium, and alloy steel workpieces.
This tap is installed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians using a standard tapping head, tap wrench, or CNC machine tool holder. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned with the drilled hole before engagement. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tool life. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine guarding requirements when operating tapping equipment.
