The OSG 1101505605 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting 4-40 UNC threads in a wide range of metals. Manufactured from vanadium high speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this tap offers extended wear resistance compared to uncoated HSS tooling. It features 3 flutes with a plug chamfer and a right-hand thread direction. The H4 thread limit provides controlled oversize tolerance for reliable thread fit. At 1.875 inches overall length with a 0.141-inch shank diameter, it is sized for standard tap chucks and holders used in machine shop and field threading applications.
This tap is suited for threading operations in both production and maintenance environments. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it well-suited for use in through-hole applications across a broad range of materials. Licensed machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die workers commonly use this tap in CNC tapping, drill press, and hand-tapping setups. It is not designed for coolant-through delivery.
Designed for threading aluminum, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, cast iron, high-nickel alloy, and titanium workpieces requiring 4-40 UNC threads.
Install in a standard tap chuck or collet rated for the shank diameter before use. Ensure the workpiece and machine are secured and spindle is properly aligned before engaging the tap. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tool life. Do not reverse direction abruptly in hard materials to avoid tap breakage.
