The OSG 1050202 is a straight flute bottoming tap designed for threading 8-32 UNC internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel, this right-hand tap features 3 flutes and a bottoming chamfer that allows threads to be cut close to the bottom of a blind hole. The H3 thread limit provides a consistent 2B class of fit, which is the standard tolerance range for general-purpose inch-series threaded fastener applications. With an overall length of 2.125 inches and a thread length of 0.75 inches, this tap suits machine shops, maintenance environments, and production floor applications where precision tapping of smaller diameter holes is required.
This tap is suited for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. The bottoming chamfer - typically 1 to 2 threads - makes it the correct choice when a thread must extend to the bottom of a blind hole, or when a plug or taper tap has already been used to start the thread. It belongs to OSG Series 103 and is sold individually, making it practical for both single-job procurement and replenishment of existing tap sets used in light manufacturing, toolroom work, and field maintenance.
Designed for tapping 8-32 UNC threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel workpieces. Compatible with standard tap holders and tapping heads accepting straight-shank taps of this size class.
This tap is installed by a machinist or maintenance technician using a tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC machine spindle with appropriate tap holder. Ensure the correct drill size for 8-32 UNC is used prior to tapping to maintain proper thread form and avoid tap breakage. Apply a suitable cutting fluid for the workpiece material - particularly important when tapping steel or cast iron. Do not force the tap through hard or misaligned holes; back off periodically to break chips, especially in deeper blind holes.
