The OSG 1050200 is a straight flute tap designed for cutting internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, it cuts 8-32 UNC threads to a 2B class of fit with an H3 thread limit. The bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes where spiral-flute or plug-chamfer taps cannot reach. With an overall length of 2.125 inches and a thread length of 0.47 inches, this tap fits standard tap handles and machine setups used by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance tapping operations in shops handling aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel workpieces. The straight flute design works best in through-hole applications or shallow blind holes where chips can be pushed down or cleared manually. It is a practical choice for hand tapping or rigid machine tapping at controlled feed rates on 8-32 UNC threaded fastener applications common in light mechanical assemblies and electrical enclosures.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use tap for 8-32 UNC bottoming applications in standard tap handles, tapping heads, and CNC rigid-tap setups that accept the corresponding shank diameter and square drive.
A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance technician should select the correct tap drill size for 8-32 UNC prior to use and ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured before tapping. Always apply a suitable cutting fluid or tapping compound when threading steel or cast iron to extend tool life and reduce galling. For machine tapping, use rigid tapping mode or a synchronous tapping attachment to avoid thread damage. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use and replace if cutting edges show signs of deterioration.
